I have just finished Dear Miss Lake and wanted to say that I loved it as much as I’d loved the other books. I feel as if Emmy, Guy, Bunty, Harold and the rest of the team are old friends and I am going to miss them, and I will probably wonder from time to time how their lives panned out after the war. In the meantime, thank you so much for these warm, uplifting, entertaining and informative novels. I look forward to whatever comes next and hope it won’t be too long to wait!
Thank you so much - that's lovely to hear. I do miss them already. One day I may have to write about things panned out! For now I need to pull my socks up re the next novel. I'll get on with it, I promise!
You are marvelous!! Thank you! This is my first note from you and I’m hooked!! I will toddle off tomorrow and pick up your book THAT I S NOW OUT IN THE US!! ;))
I'm sure it's been recommended already but Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day is a perfect little novel for your Miss/Mrs book list. I read it whenever I feel glum.
Congratulations on the US publication of one of my very favourite books of the year (and I have read a LOT of books this year.) I am sad that it has come to an end but, as Dr Seuss allegedly said, "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".
ps - I have never been to The Devil's Punchbowl and Hindhead Common - maybe a day trip?
Definitely add in 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' and 'Miss Mapp' to your upcoming post. They are both fantastic book. I am so looking forward to reading what makes the list!
I second Amy's recommendations. Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day has been filmed and whoever did the adaptation must have loved and respected the book. If you haven't read EF Benson's Mapp and Lucia books, I really envy you. You'll have the experience of reading them for the first time.
100% on the list! I love Miss Pettigrew - such a joy! And thank you re Miss Mapp. I need to hurl myself into the series in general I think. It is on the TBR!
So many people miss half the fun of the series by starting with Mapp and Lucia. I read all six books every January. LoL ! Lucia's unbelievable zeal sets me up to start the year full of energy. I adore this series.
Goodness I covet your newsletter every month. Always makes me smile, and adds to my TBR list! Dear Miss Lake is on its way to me. I’ll be so sad to see the series end
Thank you! I'm so glad you like the newsletter and really hope you enjoy Dear Miss Lake. It's def bittersweet to be ending the series, but I'm excited about trying something new and falling in love with completely new characters. In my head Emmy and co are carrying on with their lives - but without us!
Thank you - I read this after a long and tiring day at work and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. How did I miss a book recommendation about a story with a pig in it? I'm going to look it up at once. Have a lovely evening!
Thank you for a thoroughly entertaining newsletter, which has cost me some $$ to buy those Henrietta books, which my local library didn't have. Drats. I did find good used copies, as they say. I'm all caught up on your series! Now I'm waiting for the library to send me Dear Miss Lake. They say I'm 4th in line for the audiobook, and they have just one copy! Hopefully, the three people ahead of me will jump on the book, listen to it straightaway and return it early!
Lovely read AJ X
Thank you, Nicola! Lovely to see you here!
