Thank you so much - I'm a bit after the fact too! Just writing the next one and I'm very much hoping it will be the same kind of old nonsense all round! :-)

I love fruit crockery and if I had the room I would collect it avidly. My late mum had a cruet set in the form of an onion, a carrot and a peapod - possibly Carlton Ware. Deeply sorry that I got rid of it in my enthusiam for decluttering

Hooray - another fruit crockery person. That makes it officially A Thing. Thank you! The cruet set sounds wonderful. I'm sorry decluttering did its worst and hope someone else is getting much enjoyment from them now. PS I've just googled it and found some which look brilliant.

Thank you; thanks to Substack. I may never have found you otherwise.

I have all my mother’s books and all the Angela Thirkell books. I’ve been meaning to read them, especially as there’s a note in one saying mother should write her biography. She didn’t.

My mother was born in 1910 so you must realise I’m getting a bit of tooth by now. Time to get on with it.

That's really lovely, thank you. How wonderful that you have your mother's books. I completely agree - it's time we all got on with stuff! I must dig out my mother's books - she is now 93 and still an avid reader. I have her pony books from the 1940s and they are wonderful.

Ohhh I am loving the fruit pottery, but I think the asparagus plate is particularly fabulous. Most exciting however, is getting to read Chapter 1 of Dear Miss Lake. Thank you.

That's 3 of us officially pro-Fruit Crockery in these comments so I think that makes us a gang.

I always enjoyed getting your newsletters and now I have your Substacks to cheer. Marvellous, thank you. Also, I am now completely enthralled by Anna Zinkeisen and want to know everything about her after seeing that self portrait (I also want to be her quite a lot).

Thank you so much! Anna Zinkeisen just seems so cool, doesn't she? Total coincidence that I'd been to the NPG where her self-portrait more or less leaps off the wall at you. Wonderful.

I went down a rabbit hole and now want to know everything about her and her sister - fascinating and talented women.

I very much enjoyed reading this and am now coveting those fruit bowls despite having no real use for them. The tape measure is certainly unusual!

I think you should get some fruit bowls!! If it helps justify a purchase, I can report that I've now put bananas in the strainer as they can't drip so I think that counts as Dual Use and therefore a massively good investment. NB I am not on commission although it sounds like it. :-)

Dual use makes them even more tempting 😄

I really want to start a blog called Stumped by a Drawing Pin now! Or the name of a chapter, which I now realise is my new life aim!
